Prayer Is Not Sniveling, Whining, & Crawling

By: George Wallace

To remain sane while living with the consequences of circumstantial events. To remain sane while living with the consequences of with free will decisions. Especially free will decisions that result in good and evil. You need to seek to create a balance, a harmony within you. That balance enhances the quality of the learning from the experiences of both good and evil.

You don’t have a choice. Despite your best efforts, you will experience good and evil from your perspective. You will do things that are good. You will do things that are evil to others yourself. Learn from these experiences. Try to improve yourself based on what you learned. You might not even know that you did either one. For your peace of mind, seek to balance evil with good.

Here is a good prayer to say aloud with a group. “Hello God. Each one of us is glad to be here tonight in your service. We know that serving our community is how we serve You. We know that in serving our community we will come closer to You. If You will, please help us have a good meeting, and help get us home safely so we can continue to serve You. We ask these things respectfully and with joy. Amen.”

God will not be listening. He will not hear you. He will not respond. Maybe the group will feel better.

People usually do what they feel like doing. They do this without thinking about it. They are driven by the animal emotions of the 90% unconscious brain. Later, especially if they feel guilt, then they use the 10% conscious brain to rationalize what they have done.

Your unconscious brain has no morals. Your unconscious brain is entirely animal-like. Your unconscious brain is totally self-absorbed, and has only one goal: “protect me”. The thought process of the animal brain goes something like this. "I will take what I want. I am the most important person alive. I will please me. I will seek pleasure. I love fats, honey, sugar, and chocolate. I will eat all I can. I will get all the sex I can. I will avoid pain. Protect me”.

Threats, promises, and bribery are not forms of prayer. They are instead the immature actions of a child. A child with no understanding of one’s individual responsibility. A child with no understanding of one’s relationship to God.

The historical stories of emperors and kings “converting themselves and their armies to Christianism”. Supposedly after praying to Christ for help. Then winning a battle are always one-sided. We don’t hear about the times when a similar promise was made and they lost, and died. History is always written by the victors.

At least think about how this form of prayer demands much effort from you. It does not demand sniveling, whining, and crawling. No begging and retreating into abject incompetent worthlessness. These latter actions are the actions following failure. Failure, including failure to try. These actions are remarkably similar to those of a slave using nonassertive tactics to resist the state of their slavery.

You are not a slave to God. He doesn’t need or want slaves.

You can curse God. You can revile God. You can resist God for every day in every way for your entire life. You can resist until your last breath and last iota of strength. God does not care. You will not be punished.

You only become of use to God when you are dead meat sending out aromatic welcoming messages to flies and other scavengers.

In the meantime, if you desire to attempt prayer, do so. If you pray seeking personal inner strength, do so.

Pray in a focusing of mental energy centering on the concept of God-hood. Keep in mind that it is not a requirement from God.

Before practicing prayer, you must first try. First make an effort. First work hard. First achieve something before entering into the act of prayer.

Keep in mind the purpose of prayer. A prayer where you thank God, is a waste of time, because He is not listening.

Prayer where you share aloud with God your accomplishments has a value. As in a public display for public relations purposes. As a function of organized religion. You can pray to reinforce your collective efforts. Pray to bring the group together. Pray to reinforce the efforts of the group.

In the instance of trying for brownie points with the waitress, pray in a form which reinforces the value of the effort. The effort that first into the preparation for the activity. The effort which assured the outcome of the contest.

Any prayer is for you, or the group, not God. A prayer is a summation.

You can even pray when you lose the contest.

“Thank You, God, I survived.” "Thank You, God, we survived." He won’t care. You will.
